How To Grow Your Hair Out Faster

For men who want to grow their hair out and try a new style, it can be frustrating waiting for it to get to the length you want - especially at a rate of ½ an inch a month.

Thankfully, there are ways to make the most of your hair growth potential; for some even reaching rates of 2 inches a week. Here’s a quick rundown on the best practices for growing your hair healthy and fast.

1. Nutrition

Like with building muscle or cutting fat, if you want your system performing its best and giving you the results you want - you’ve gotta start with nutrition. To make sure you’re giving your hair - and your body - the best fuel you can, you should hit the following macros each day.

  • Water

You should take in between 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily to stay in a state of maximum hydration. This will keep your skin - and your scalp - from becoming dry. It also keeps your entire system running in tip-top condition, meaning you’ll be feeling your best and looking your best. That’s something that will apply to all areas in your life.

  • Protein

Structurally, hair is mostly protein, so it makes sense that increasing your protein intake will reflect in hair growth. You’re literally just giving your hair fuel. Aim for about 120g of protein per day for best results.

  • Vitamin C

Vitamin C is found in citrus fruits and red peppers. It is the vitamin your body uses to produce collagen, which is critical for the health of you hair and skin.

  • Biotin

You can find Biotin in salmon, oyster, avacados and nuts. Biotin is a great source of fat - the right kind of fat - which will reflect in the fatty fuel you’re giving to your hair cells.

2. Easy on the Shampoo, Heavy on the Conditioner

Too much shampoo can dry out your scalp, and your hair. Experts say you should shampoo only a few times a week; more often if you have more oily hair, less often if you have less oily hair. You can, and should, condition daily. This maintains your hair ends, and keeps your hair moisturised and healthy.

3. Wash Your Hair With Lukewarm Water

While some of you might be on the cold showers craze, looking to get in on the health benefits they offer, it’s said that going too cold on the water you use on your scalp isn’t ideal in promoting hair growth. This is because in using freezing water, you constrict the capillaries on your scalp which carry the necessary nutrients in them. It’s best to err on the side of caution and use lukewarm water instead. Although you also don’t want to go too far and use scalding hot water on your hair. That’ll just dry out your hair, weakening it and making it look dull and unhealthy.

4. Don’t Brush Hair When Wet

Wet hair is in a much weaker state than dry hair, making it more fragile and prone to breakage. This is why you should be careful of the brush you use when it’s wet, and also try and get most of the water out before you brush at all.

5. Reduce Stress

Find a way to limit the stress in your life. As much as you think you have it under control, being constantly stressed out takes its toll on your body, as well as your mind. This will also apply to your goal of growing healthy hair as fast as you can. Being in an anxious state limits the resources you have available for the healthy maintenance and multiplication of your cells; including the ones on your scalp.

6. Exercise Often

Cardio helps with hair growth. This is because through getting oxygen through your cells, they multiply and keep healthy. This is achieved through proper blood circulation. Working on cardio for half an hour three times per week should be ideal to get this done.

7. Sleep Well

Getting the proper amount of sleep lets your body repair itself properly, giving your cells a chance to multiply and your hair to grow. Incidentally, this also applies to muscle growth. The better and longer sleep you get, the more growth hormone is released, and the bigger and stronger your muscles will grow; and the longer your hair will grow as well. 7-8 hours per night is what you’re aiming for.
