Knowing more about your individual hair type can give you more control over your haircare routine, and keep your hair looking it’s strongest and it’s healthiest. Here’s some info on the four main hair types.
Straight Fine:
Straight and fine hair is more fragile than its thicker counterpart, meaning it has to be brushed or combed with a little more care. It’s also more prone to becoming oily, so should be shampooed more frequently.
It’s lighter in weight than thick and straight hair, meaning it tends to fall flat on your head; regardless of length. Because of this, fine hair also gets more easily weighed down by hair products, so it’s worth finding the perfect amount to put on. It’s also quite hard to increase its height and volume, because of its fineness. It’s often worth trying out a side part if you’re looking to get more volume with finer hair, as this instantly bulks it up.
Straight Thick:
Straight and thick hair rtends to have a lot more volume than straight and fine hair. The texture of thick hair is also less fragile, meaning you can get a lot more variety in ways you can style it.
Because of its thickness, it also takes a lot more time to dry out, although it does tolerate heat quite well.
Wavy:
Wavy hair has a lot of the same advantages straight and thick hair has, although it also has more texture. It is quite prone to frizzing although, which is something to watch out for if you have wavy hair.
Curly:
Curly hair offers significantly fewer options for styling, although you can get around this a little through a variety of moisturising treatments - including beeswax. Curly hair tends to be more course, leaving it open to frizzing easily, which is also something to look out for.
